Chapter Six: Backyard Cricket
Following the afternoon's heat descent, and after a plan is set to discover the next realm of nowhere, a friendly cricket match is called upon. The stumps are set, the teams are decided. The game commences.
As if in slow motion, the bowler runs and charges a ball down the pitch. The bats woman swipes the ball into the burnt horizon until it is no longer to be seen and left for a new collective to find for their own match. On the sideline, fresh oranges are cut for heat respite.
Once devoured, the match continues until no balls are left. As the sun falls behind the red abyss, they part ways to rest and welcome an early morning to the sound of bush birds to signify their next chapter to nowhere.
